Fun Facts
California to South America
The "ODYSSEY" expedition departs from San Francisco Bay Area beginning the 12-month, 66,000-kilometer overland adventure around the world. In one of history's greatest expeditions the ambitious team drives down California's sunny coast, through the cartoon-like cactus forests of Mexico's Baja peninsula, unruly Central America and over the mountainous Andes of South America to the southern-most city in the world-Ushuaia in Tierra del Fuego.
Australia to India
The Land Rovers and team ships to Brisbane, Australia and begins the westbound stretch across 900-miles of outback on the "Gun Barrel" highway to Perth. From there the voyagers are crewmembers on a cargo ship through Indonesia to Singapore where they start their Asia leg. They continue through SE Asia and become the 1st group ever to drive across the isolated country of Myanmar (Burma) since 1953 before reaching a world within the world, India.
Himalayas, Pakistan & China
After dodging sacred cows and stomach illnesses the crew meets with the Dalai Lama in Dharamsala and he blesses their journey by signing the hood of their car then it's off to the Himalayas in Kashmir for these troopers. The team travels over the highest motorable road in the world, the Kardong-La Pass and up the Karicourn Highway through Pakistan before descending into China.
Siberia, Alaska and back to California
While surviving the intense cold of Siberian winter the team pass the world's deepest lake, Lake Baikal in Irkutsk, drive across frozen rivers in Yakutsk and along the "Road of Bones" in the Far East before shipping from Magadan to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. Their home stretch takes them down the Dalton and Alcan highways, through the towering forests and craggy coasts of Canada back to San Francisco a year after this epic voyage began.
